In this project, I explored designing a title sequence for The Handmaid’s Tale with a focus on composition, rhythm, typography, and motion.

My response to the brief is a filmed sequence centred on the ideas of muffling and erasure.

Without directly illustrating the narrative of the book, the sequence communicates themes of oppression, censorship, and loss of identity through the visual language. Red fabric across the frame acts as a physical metaphor for control, with the body pressing from behind to suggest restraint and resistance. The credits appear briefly- fragmented and redacted, reflecting the systematic removal of identity within the handmaids, and choir music and muffled accelerating heartbeats reinforce the intense, oppressive atmosphere.
